An image a day

Clearing [152]

leave a comment »

A late evening walk through Stuart Road Park in Reston revealed a clearing ahead. It is very interesting taking pictures in low light conditions. You have to consider the exposure carefully so the camera’s meter doesn’t try to make the scene bright. Camera meters calculate an exposure that assumes the scene will be rendered at a middle tone. When the scene is meant to appear dark, you have to manually lower the exposure to suit your needs. I do this with the exposure compensation button. I usually use a center-weighted metering mode, and compensate the exposure up or down with the exposure compensation buttons based on how I want the image to turn out.
